Free Mental Health Counseling: Healing the Whole Woman

At Women’s Resource Center (centrally located in Hickory, NC), mental health IS health. Through its Mental Health Counseling for Women program, WRC offers no-cost professional therapy to women who are uninsured or underinsured in Catawba, Burke, Caldwell, and Alexander counties. With three licensed therapists, women receive individualized care by appointment only.

Why This Matters

Accessing mental health care isn’t always simple—and for many women without adequate insurance, therapy may seem out of reach. WRC bridges this gap by offering free counseling sessions and support groups, led by highly qualified professionals who bring both expertise and empathy to every session.

Real Impact

In recent years, WRC has provided tens of thousands of dollars of free mental health services to women experiencing emotional and financial hardship:

  • In 2022, WRC delivered approximately $27,500 in free counseling services to underinsured or uninsured women in the community.

These sessions empower women to manage trauma, anxiety, transitions, grief, and more—so they can reclaim resilience and a sense of peace.

Your Support Brings Healing

This critical program stays viable only through generous donations, meaningful grants, and compassionate volunteers. Unlike federally funded programs, WRC does not receive state or federal funding—and every hour of therapy, every support group, and every appointment is made possible by community support.

Ways You Can Help:

  • Give financially: Your donation goes directly toward supporting free therapy sessions and mental health support groups. Consider leaving a note to designate your funds specifically for “Mental Health Counseling for Women.”
  • Spread the word: Help women in need find WRC’s services by sharing on social media, local church bulletins, or community newsletters.
  • Volunteer your expertise or time: From outreach coordination to administrative support, every helping hand makes a difference.

A Message of Hope

Mental wellness isn’t just a luxury—it’s fundamental. When women are emotionally healthy, the impact radiates outward—lifting children, families, and entire communities.
